Have you ever had a moment when you thought the world was coming to an end? Well on this day, I did!
Today was our friend Medhi's birthday so we had it planned to take him and Hawdi out to dinner to celebrate. Being that it was Medhi's birthday we let him choose where he wanted to eat at on this special day. After telling him about the ribs at Suzi's Cafe and showing him the picture of them, it was decided, Suzi's Cafe. Off to Suzi's we went.
After arriving and surprisingly not having to wait in line, we sat down at the table and ordered our meals, everything seemed to be pretty normal, until.....
All of a sudden my chair starts shaking, I assumed it must have been John kicking my chair until I felt the table start shaking. Then I saw the walls in the building quake. And when I saw the light fixtures on the ceiling start shaking I was convinced this was too real to be a psychedelic reaction to whatever we ate for breakfast. It was an earthquake! For a brief second I thought this was it! The end of the world! I was expecting the floor to crack open and swallow us whole. This was the first time I've ever experienced something like this!
Although there were people who hurried outside, we carried on eating dinner despite the plates on the dining table shaking all around us. Unimpressed that various dishes were shaking on the table we merely treated our meal as a moveable feast. It's sinful to waste food so of course we were going to continue to eat.
Finally after what seemed like forever (but only seconds I'm sure), it stopped. We were safe!
We found out that it was a magnitude 6.3 earthquake. The depth was recorded at about 73 miles. The quake was about 42 miles south-southwest of the Redoubt Volcano. This quake was felt across southcentral Alaska, from Kodiak to Fairbanks. It was a pretty big earthquake! Thank God there were no injuries or damages reported! I guess earthquakes are pretty common around here. I wish I would have known that! I honestly didn't know what to think about what was going on. What if it was the end? Would I be ready? This was definitely a deep thought moment. Maybe everybody should experience a moment like this.
