A role model is a person who serves as an example by influencing others. For many children, the most important role models are their parents and caregivers. Children look up to a variety of role models to help shape how they behave in school, relationships or when making difficult decisions. Children also look up to other relatives, teachers and peers. We all have to be positive role models, because there is no shortage of negative role models for our children in today’s society. Children and adolescents imitate the actions and appearance of video, movie, and television stars. However, today’s media is not promoting family values and modeling pro-social behavior for children. That's why we need to promote good values. There are many ways to do this. What about reading the Bible to your children? The Bible is one of the best selling books of all time, and one of the most influential on Facebook believe it or not. In addition to building faith, the Bible could be the source of your kids' next role model. By searching the Bible you will find many great role models, Jesus being the number 1 example. What about Abraham, Moses and Noah, the list goes on and on! God is the author of role-modeling!
Being a good role model is an important role you can play in the lives of children too, not just inside the family but from outside the family. One persons actions can make a difference in a child's life!
After church I took John out to dinner for Father's Day. He chose Chinese food. We ate at a really good place called Golden International Chinese on Sterling Highway. The food was fantastic! This is definitely a do over! To our surprise they had a buffet. We both knew when we walked up to the buffet that this wasn't going to end good. Needless to say, we ate way too much! Overeat at a buffet? Of course we're going to overeat at a buffet, it's all you can eat! We knew we ate too much when we started sweating soy sauce! It was time to leave! Chinese food is good but the sodium in it is really high which can make most people swell. By the time we got to the car we were swelled up like balloons. After moving the truck seat back a couple of notches we headed to the store to buy my honey a new fishing pole and to try and waddle off some of the misery we felt. We found him a fishing pole and waddled back to the truck. Stupid Chinese food!
When we got back to the camper we put line on our new poles and headed to Bings Campground to try them out. We fished for a couple of hours and didn't catch anything! Could it be the new pole, or could it be that the fish were too afraid to come near us thinking we were beached whales? I guess we'll never know. I do know one thing though, after the swelling goes down, I'm not eating Chinese food again! Okay, maybe not for a couple of weeks anyway!
When we got back to our campground I accidentally broke the tip off of John's new fishing pole by shutting it in the truck door! As if I didn't already feel bad enough!
Tomorrow will bring another trip to the store to replace his Father's Day gift with a new one.
